Andrejs Ponomarjovs, Dr.oec., Senior Audit Partner, Chairman of the Board, Director General of Nexia Audit Advice
Since the Company has been established, it was led by the doctor of economics, partner, director general Andrejs Ponomarjovs. Andrejs represents the audit firm in all transactions, sets up its development strategy, provides, organises and leads the professional activity of Nexia Audit Advice, including auditing, review and other related engagements, as well as valuation projects. Andrejs has been engaged in accountancy since 1993, whereas in auditing – since 1999.
Andrejs is recognized expert in accounting and auditing fields in Latvia. In 1998 Andrejs graduated from Riga Technical University, receiving Master’s degree in economics and a diploma with honours. In 2001 Andrejs obtained the Certificate of Professional Accountant issued by the Association of Accountants of the Republic of Latvia. Andrejs Ponomarjovs received the Doctor’s degree in economics (Dr.oec.) in 2005, defending the doctor’s dissertation “Development of The Regulative Requirements of an Audit in Latvia”. In 2008 Andrejs received the qualification of Professional Internal Auditor (Dipl.PIA) and the diploma of The Institute of Professional Financial Managers (Great Britain); in 2009 Andrejs received the qualification of Certified Professional Internal Auditor (DipCPIA) and the Certificate of The Institute of Professional Financial Managers (Great Britain).
As one of the leading professionals in the speciality, Andrejs was also involved in educational process. Andrejs has over 10 years of experience in the field of education - since 2001 he has been working at the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Latvia, being a lecturer and conducting workshops in the field of financial accounting. From 2006 to 2010 Andrejs worked in the Accounting and Audit Department, the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Latvia as an assistant professor, teaching graduate level course (master’s course) of "International Standards on Auditing". In October 2010 Andrejs Ponomarjovs was appointed as Leading Researcher of School of Business Administration TURIBA. Andrejs is head of the Institute for Complex Strategics Studies as well.
Andrejs Ponomarjovs is author of numerous educational books for students and academic publications on accountancy and auditing issues, as well as he regularly participates in international and national conferences. Researches devoted to problems in the professional field (including professional ethics, public oversight of audit activities) conducted under the leadership of Andrejs were marked both at the international level and in Latvia. As recognized international expert, Andrejs is a member of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (ISAR UNCTAD). Andrejs Ponomarjovs has a wide range of professional contacts with colleagues from neighbouring countries, such as Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Finland, Germany, Russia, Belarus. Andrejs is also Chairman of the Board and President of the Association of Accountants of the Republic of Latvia; various times he has represented the Association at international events, as well as at the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and Accountancy Europe (ACE).
Since establishment in 2009, Andrejs Ponomarjovs has been leading the Audit Advisory Council in Latvia; since June 2011 Andrejs Ponomarjovs has been representing Riga Stock Exchange Nasdaq Riga in the Council.
Andrejs Ponomarjovs has been included in the list of experts of Commercial register as an expert in the following areas: commercial activities (business), debt capitalization, liabilities, shares, vehicles, agricultural machinery, intellectual property, wood, antiques and art.
